Role of Diocesan PRO

Diocesan PRO’s have responsibility for attending Diocesan events, writing accounts of these and taking photographs. If unable to attend they should contact the F&C Coordinator to arrange a replacement.

It is important that the Diocesan President is sent a copy of reports before they are posted on the website or sent for publication, so that she is aware what they contain and can edit, if required.

Only the All- Ireland F&C Coordinator will be responsible for sending articles about Diocesan events to the Church of Ireland Gazette and National newspapers.

Diocesan and Area Reps should encourage branches to use their local papers to gain coverage of their branch events and news, remembering all wording must be approved by the Diocesan President prior to publication.

Reports

  • These and related photographs posted on Diocesan website.
  • Submitted to Links/Focus magazine with related photographs. These reports should be kept fairly short and to the point as space is limited. Not all reports submitted will be featured as this is at the discretion of the editor.
  • If requested send to local newspapers. Out of the ordinary events or something people would not expect Mothers’ Union to do are newsworthy!
  • Special news and related photographs sent to All- Ireland website.
  • Remember to keep a master copy on file or computer.
  • A copy of reports should be sent to the F&C Coordinator for record and reporting purposes eg. Diocesan Council, Trustee Board and All Ireland Council.

Photographs

  • Under GDPR, permission must be sought for publication of all photographs. Parents/Guardians must complete safeguarding forms confirming their consent for the publication of any photographs taken of their children under 16 years.
  • All photographs submitted should be of good clear quality. (Images should be the highest resolution capable by your camera or mobile phone. Image resolution on most mobile phones can be found by selecting camera, opening settings, selecting picture image or image size and then selecting the highest quality setting.)
  • Try to make the photographs interesting. Unusual and quirky images create more interest to those viewing the photographs. People in the photographs should be identified left to right
  • It may be necessary to contact the press photographers or Paul Mc Fadden in the Diocesan office for special events.

Build a contact list of emails and telephone numbers for Diocesan President, F&C Coordinator, Diocesan and All- Ireland website managers, Mary Sumner House, Focus magazine, and local editors of newspapers.

No one should speak on Mothers’ Union issues without prior approval of the Diocesan President, who may in turn, refer to the All- Ireland Trustee Board, and if necessary seek advice from Mary Sumner House.
